How to Boost Your Metabolism

boost your metabolism

In my previous article, I explained how your metabolism works and how you can boost your metabolism to burn more fat. I have some more tips for you though. People often ask me how I stay fit. And they tell me it is hard to achieve better health and fitness because it means missing out on food they love. Well, if that were true I would totally agree. Because I do not want to miss out either.

Anyone who knows me personally knows I eat ice cream and chocolate and chips and way too much candy almost every day. I am not kidding and not even exaggerating. I found out that staying fit and even having a six pack does not mean missing out on delicious food and other guilty pleasures. The truth is, you can eat pretty much anything you want and still be fit as long as you burn what you eat. It is all about achieving a caloric deficit, which means you have to burn more calories than you take in. You have to boost your metabolism to achieve this.

Boost Your Metabolism Without Diet

Dieting to lose weight and be fit does not have to mean eating different foods or even less foods. There are other ways to lose weight and stay healthy besides cutting out daily necessities like ice cream. One of the best ways to both maintain your weight or lose weight to reach your weight goal is by boosting your metabolism. One way is to eat less food and especially sugar. Sugar really is evil to your body and health and it is as addictive as hard drugs. Again, I’m not kidding or exaggerating. But if you do not want to eat less food, you can also just get your body to burn food quicker and have the same effect. Let me give you four tips on how to boost your metabolism.

1. Drink More Water

This is a simple method that many people use to speed up their metabolism. It is easy to do wherever you are, at work or somewhere else. All you need to buy is a resuable water bottle and you are well on your way to making this work. Why reusable? Well, because the plastic pollution of our oceans is terrible enough as it is. Boosting your metabolism does not have to pollute, right?

Many studies show that simply drinking water every hour can have huge results on your metabolism. Drinking half a liter of water can boost your metabolism up to 30%. How easy is that!

2. Increase Your Collagen

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. Many household products like lotion and vitamins contain collagen. Collagen helps your body build lean muscle and even helps you stay young. And it plays a part in metabolising several foods that you eat. Increasing your collagen is a great way to boost your metabolism and lose weight. There are several ways to do it. Here are the most important ones:

  • Try to sleep 8 hours a night. You need sleep for the production of human growth hormone (HGH).  And HGH stimulates collagen production in muscles and tendons.
  • Include weight training and high intensity training in your exercise routing. This is essential. Both increase HGH in your body and therefore collagen production.
  • Relax in an infrared sauna at the gym. Infrared light increases collagen production in your skin. And having a sauna is an easy and relaxing way to achieve it.
  • Use supplements. You can get collagen supplements and most online fitness webshops. Vitamin C is essential for collagen and so are glucosamine and chondroitin. You can get all these at any regular drug store.

3. Spicy Food

Spicy foods contain a substance called capsaicin. Capsaicin is an oil that increases your metabolism. If you love spicy food then this will be great news for you. If you don’t, then you could simply decide to use more pepper while cooking, of regularly having a ginger drink. This is not a miracle trick though. Eating spicy food may increase your metabolism because it makes your body burn some extra calories. But it only really works well in combination with the other steps.

4. Use Coconut Oil to Boost Your Metabolism

I use coconut oil for my cooking almost exclusively. I do use olive oil in some of my meals too though. Both are great. But for cooking, coconut oil is the best. Coconut oil contains medium-chain fats, which are very different from the saturated fats in most oils. Coconut oil fats can increase your metabolism by up to 12%. They also taste almost exactly like regular cooking oil and have many other health benefits. Coconut oil does cost a little more but if you look and compare prices you can find even the best coconut oil relatively cheaply. Please make sure to check if it was harvested without ruining rainforests.

More is Needed to Boost Your Metabolism

Applying the steps above will really make a difference. But you will need to do all of them to see a difference, not just one. Plus, it might not be enough. Depending on your current fitness and weight more may be needed to boost your metabolism. Exercise is essential too. I did not mention this before because you already know it, don’t you? Regular exercise is essential, preferably at least half an hour a day. Even a brisk walk outside will provide what you need. But even better is a proper workout in the gym or your local calisthenics park. Do you want to work out at home? Click here to find out how.

I eat ice cream almost every day. And I love chocolate and also chips. But the only reason I can eat all that delicious junk food and still stay fit is because I boost my metabolism and work out a few times a week. So yes, it absolutely is possible to be fit without missing out on good stuff. It just takes some effort in return. Want to know more about food, health and fitness? Click right here.
